Bertha Diaz
Parent Liaison & Administrative Coordinator
Native Austinite Bertha joined the Explore Austin team in 2021 following a 20-year administrative career with Austin Independent School District. In the education sector, she always most enjoyed working directly with the children and families, spending much of her career at Barton Hills Elementary. When Bertha joined the Explore Austin team, her bilingualism was a huge asset to our program, which serves predominantly Hispanic youth from economically disadvantaged communities. In her role as Parent Liaison & Administrative Coordinator, Bertha is most passionate about working with our Explorers and their families, connecting them with community resources and serving as the main point-of-contact for Spanish-speaking parents of youth in our program. She has also been instrumental in re-establishing the EA Parents Council, which engages families in our program through coffee chats, potlucks, program observation days and more.
When not at work, Bertha enjoys spending time with her daughter, Maya, and dog, Ginger. She’s also active with outdoor adventure organizations Latino Outdoors and Black Women Who.
