Caroline Newman Phillips
Originally from Chicago, Caroline graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA in English and Spanish. She moved to the great state of Texas immediately thereafter to teach fifth grade through the Teach for America program. After stints studying abroad in Spain, teaching abroad in China, and leading hiking trips in California, Caroline found her way to her adopted home of Austin. She earned her master’s degree at UT’s LBJ School of Public Affairs and continues to work in the education field, first at a private foundation focused on educational equity and currently as the inaugural Coordinator of the Austin Ed Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting innovation and excellence in Austin ISD. Caroline enjoys spending time with her family-- toddler son Ty, husband Jacob, and pup Cookie. She loves competitive running, chocolate, reading, sleeping in, and anything and everything related to the great outdoors. As a mentor with the inaugural Girls' Class of 2017, Caroline is so impressed by the talented, courageous, empathetic young women the 2017 Explorers have become over the past six years. They are going to make an amazing impact on the world.
