Rebecca Birkholz is the Administrative Manager of Explore Austin. She handles donations, works with the in-house databases, manages office logistics, and serves as the link between the different departments.
After graduating from Boston University with a BA in Psychology, Rebecca worked with Americorps VISTA for two years. Her first year was spent as a volunteer at HAND and her second year she served as a VISTA leader at the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas. During her work, Rebecca collaborated with Explore’s VISTA member and learned how closely Explore’s mission aligned with her values. Rebecca remembers being jealous of the position held with such an incredible organization.
Rebecca always felt drawn to nonprofits because she yearned to see how her work could benefit others. When she was younger, Rebecca was not naturally inclined towards nature, yet her parents took her on numerous camping trips and biking trails. Her allergies to insects made her feel paranoid in nature. As Rebecca got older, her appreciation and perspective on the outdoors that her parents had instilled in her as a child flourished. Rebecca therefore appreciates the opportunity Explore Austin provides to children who would otherwise lack the resources and drive to learn outside. When Rebecca faces challenges outdoors, she feels better about herself, so she can only imagine the impact the outdoors has on the Explorers.
Rebecca loves hiking and often hikes alone on less traveled paths. Rebecca also enjoys live music, rollerblading, social dancing, and feels yoga keeps her mind and body in unison.
