Claire Spera

A California native and Austin resident since 2010, Claire has over a decade of communications and marketing experience in the education, healthcare and nonprofit sectors. Claire was thrilled to join the Explore Austin team in April 2023 to lead the organization’s public presence. She has a B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. in journalism from the University of Southern California. She was attracted to Explore Austin because she’s had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and feels strongly about children of all backgrounds having the opportunity to experience adventure. The daughter of two geologists, Claire can’t remember a time when the outdoors wasn’t a part of her life—she went on her first camping trip when she was only six months old!

When she’s not at the office, Claire spends her time traveling with her miniature dachshund, teaching and performing flamenco dance (which she’s done for 30 years) and working as a freelance journalist. She’s also an avid volunteer with nonprofits like the Breast Cancer Resource Center and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and serves as the Communications Chair for the Komen Young Professionals Council.
