How has an experience with a mentor impacted your own life? My grandfather taught me how to learn, and how to be a self-sufficient and competent person. He spent time with me and told me stories, asked what my thoughts and opinions were on matters, and basically became a friend. It is immeasurable how much I learned from my grandfather. The influence he has had on how my life has shaped, is tremendous.
What made you decide to be a mentor? I had heard about the program through a friend of a friend, and was told that they thought it would be something I would enjoy. So I talked a bit with some people in the program; listened about the summer trips that the groups go on, and thought it sounded like a great idea. Then when Explore Austin had an open meet and discuss forum at St Andrews, my friend sent me a link to the event. I went, and by then end I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.
