Julie is an Oakland, California native passionate about education and social change, curious about how to build vibrant communities, and hungry for opportunities to enable others to find what brings them joy. Many years ago Julie left the sunny west coast to study International Relations and Sustainable Development at Boston University. For the last ten years she pursed work in alternative education, exploring the intersection of play, technology, and self-direction in collaborative learning spaces. Work and play have led her all over the world, with lengthy stints in Israel and India. Julie moved to Austin in 2016 to pursue a masters degree in learning technologies and instructional design at UT Austin. When not happily buried under a pile of school books, Julie is likely to be found outside finding an adventure to get into, gardening, dancing, yoga-ing, volunteering, and biking around town. Julie is grateful for the incredible opportunity to learn and grow alongside the young women she has the privilege to mentor.
